Metatarsalgia

Posted by Mark Lewis on

Causes: The metatarsals are five bones in the foot that are located just below the toes. Metatarsalgia, which is sometimes called "ball-of-the-foot pain," is a condition that is characterized by pain in this area

Symptoms: It is most commonly seen in people who are involved in high-impact sports like basketball or running.

Prevention &  Care: Put shock absorbing insoles or arch supports in your shoes. Wearing shoes with no padding increases the chances of getting metatarsalgia. High heels should be avoided if you have this condition.

If you are experiencing persistent pain, and symptoms that do not improve with treatment of a non-prescription product consult a podiatrist.  A foot doctor can correctly diagnose the condition and make appropriate recommendations.
